Create a Litmap

Here's how to create a literature map, or Litmap.

Litmaps let you view the top-related articles to any given article(s).

It's the fastest way to dive into the literature on your topic and understand the scientific landscape.

How to Create a Litmap

  1. Go to the Litmaps app

  2. Click "Create Litmap" at the top left

  3. Select your starting articles, by either searching or uploading some.

  4. Click "Create Litmap"

  5. Click "Explore Related Articles" to get new article suggestions

Your Litmap will show your starting articles as dark dots, and hollow dots as suggested articles. Click here to read about how these suggestions are done.

You can grow your Litmap by clicking "More like this". This saves suggested articles to your Map, and helps target your search so Litmaps can find more relevant work for you.

How to Create a Litmap from a Tag

You can save articles in Litmaps using Tags. Just click "Tag" under any article to save it.

To make a Litmap from a Tag, simply go to that Tag and click .

Create a Litmap with Your Saved Articles

If you already have a set of articles saved in a reference manager (Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote, etc.) or elsewhere, you can easily create a Litmap for them.

  1. Click "Create Litmap" in the app

  2. Click "Import", and import your articles

  3. Click "Create Litmap"

How to Share a Litmap

You can share your Litmap with others with:

  • Publicly accessible URL

  • By email

  • By image

To share:

  1. Click on an existing Map

  2. Click "Open Design"

  3. Click "Share" at the top right
