You can edit an article's metadata, citations and references in Litmaps.
๐ก Did you know? You can create custom articles from scratch too. Here's how.
How to Edit an article in Litmaps
You can edit articles in Litmaps by creating a copy and changing the metadata:
Click on the article you'd like to edit
Click on the three-dot option
Click "Edit a Copy"
Change the metadata as you wish
Click "Save"
Choose "Replaced with Edited" or "Keep Original"
Now, Litmaps will save a second copy with the updated metadata. If you choose "Keep Original", you'll need to make sure to add your new, edited article to your Map. If you choose "Replaced with Edited", this will be done automatically.
What article fields are editable?
All of the standard fields articles display are editable, including citations and references.
After you save, you will see a red asterisk (*) on any edited fields.
While it is possible to edit an article's references and citations, please note that these edits will not affect how Litmaps calculates recommendations. Litmaps calculations will run using the original article's references and citations.
How to undo edits to an article
You can roll back an edit by clicking the arrow next to the edited field.
How can I update the references or citations of an article?
To update the citations or references of an article:
Click on the article you'd like to edit
Click on the three-dot option
Click Edit a Copy
Click References or Citations
Click Add References or Add Citations
Search for articles in the lookup, or select from other places in the app
Click Done
This edited copy of the article will now have the citations and references you set up, and the connections will be visible in the Litmap.
Who can see article edits?
Article metadata edits are only visible within the Workspace they were made. This normally means they'll only be visible to you, but if you're working in a Litmaps Team they will be visible to other team members who can view the Workspace.
Why are my edits not showing in some places?
When you edit an article's metadata, Litmaps is actually creating a copy of the article, and this copy is swapped into your maps and/or tags instead of the unedited article.
Most of the time this behaves as expected, but there are some places where you'll see the original Litmaps version of the article instead of your edited version:
Within keyword search result lists
Within Explore result lists
Can I make custom articles?
Yes! Here's how to create custom articles in Litmaps.
